According to Marina Khonda (kyivcity.gov.ua), in Kyiv, over 5,000 combat veterans are waiting for housing, a gap that highlights the ongoing struggle for adequate support. In 2024, nearly 452 million UAH (or approximately 12.15 million USD) was allocated to purchase 165 apartments, at an average cost of 2.74 million UAH (approximately 73,656 USD per appartment) and 173 million UAH is approximately 4.65 million USD for the co-financing program (50/50) for apartments.. This contrasts with the U.S., where veterans' housing and welfare programs are more extensive, with an estimated $30 billion (businessinsider.com) allocated in 2024 for veterans' services, including housing assistance.
While trust (Nova.net) in the Ukrainian Armed Forces (ZSU) remains high, veterans, particularly older ones (61+ years), face significant challenges in securing housing and post-war support. The socio-economic situation in Ukraine exacerbates these difficulties, emphasizing the need for greater focus on veterans' welfare.
At this stage, we are working to raise $74,000 USD to provide a single apartment for one veteran in need. Your support will help us take this first critical step, and if successful, we are committed to scaling the initiative to assist more veterans in the future.
At this stage, I am raising $74,000 USD to secure an apartment for myself as a veteran in need. This is the first step in our broader mission, and if successful, I am committed to expanding the initiative to help other veterans in similar situations. Your support will not only change one life but also pave the way for a larger impact.
My professional focus is in education, but I also need a place to live.
